Premise - Sacrificial Ceremony Reimagined

I thought the sacrificial ceremony shot wasn't good enough so I decided to redesign it, this is just an early sketch just to get the idea out but something like this with demonic undertones and maybe some Gregorian chanting in the background.

Premise - Magazine Article

Premise - Reflective Statement

On this project I encountered many issues and certainly didn't make it easy for myself. I had an entirely different idea to begin with which I believed in at first but just kept questioning it and I became really unsure with where it was headed, to the point where it seemed like a good idea to scrap my project and start fresh. I chose to make a comedy as that's my main form of entertainment and something I think I am able to do effectively to a point. Writing a script and beginning character design was hard as the project was still a bit of a mess, but when I started just drawing creatures I started to get somewhere. A lot of the thumbnails I drew were pretty terrible and not even cute but this was to my advantage as by the end of doing thumbnail sketches for the species I'd really gotten the hang of drawing "cute" creatures. I jumped a bit ahead and was advised by tutors to take a step back and really resolve the character shape. So I went back and did a load of more thumbnails, which ended up with something similar to what I had before, but far more resolved and I was happier with it so it was definitely worth going back and spending more time on that aspect of character design even if it meant compromising other work. I very much enjoyed the design process of this project. As I started this project quite late I didn't get the chance to spend as much time as I would like on the environment and props. What I drew for environments was fairly generic so I'm definitely going back to them, but I thought that for the moment the storyboard would be most important just so I could convey my idea to others. I wasn't able to fully finish my animatic for the presentation, there was about 5 shots from the end missing which meant the big payoff joke for the entire short film wasn't able to be shown effectively so I need to go back and finish that. I also wasn't overly happy with some of the shots in the animatic, I want to try make smoother transitions and think about how the camera will switch between shots within that world. What I want to spend time on now includes: finishing and improving the animatic, more environment and prop design, more character design and some tests with my characters within Maya to try out the fur textures.

Premise - Submission for Crit

I've added my presentation from the crit now as I wasn't able to upload to scribd previously despite saving it as various file types but it is the same presentation I presented from at the crit. Apologies for the size of the presentation this is the only alternative I found to scribd.

Premise - Concept Art

Premise - Character Concept

This is the concept art for the ugly character.

Premise - Concept Art

This is the final character concept I have come up with, there are still probably a few things I need to go back and tweak but pushing it out for now, I tried a few different overlays.

Premise - More Texture Tests

For these tests I wanted to see what more fluffy textures would look like and I think it worked out better than the last lot.

Premise - Texture Tests

I used a load of photo textures as overlay layers to try out a variety of fur like textures on the creature to see if it will be possible to make it look furry/fluffy with textures.

Premise - More Colour Tests

Here I started off with bright colours which I then desaturated and then did fur patterns and colour combos based on those colours.

Premise - Character Base Colour Tests

Here I thought I would try out various base colours and see how they look and work with the character. I will now try adding multiple colours and other variations.

Premise - Fur Texture Comparison

I essentially want these creatures to be balls of fluff without having to create actual hair within 3D so I want it to be a furry/cuddly texture. I have two designs at the moment where the only variation is the eyes.  At the moment the choice of colour isn't too much of an issue as colour will be used to help differentiate between characters.

Premise - Which are the cutest eyes?

These are the base layers for 2 different designs which I have come up with.
I decided to go through with the first figure as I prefer it, here are some variations on the eyes so I could compare and find the cutest. If you have any opinions on which you think is the cutest then feel free to comment.

Premise - Neatened Designs

So I picked my favourite creatures out of the last 100 thumbnails I drew and neatened them up in Photoshop ready to experiment with them  a bit and see if I can find something I am happy with. As always feedback is appreciated.
